Microsoft Cortana can now reply to your Skype messages

Skype users will now be able to rely on Cortana to help them finish off sentences and find information for people they are chatting to.

Microsoft has unveiled the new feature for its VoIP and messaging service. The artificial intelligence assistant has been added to Android and iOS devices.

Cortana's contextual assistance means it will suggest useful information based on a chat, such as restaurant options or movie reviews, according to a blog post by Microsoft's Skype team. It will also suggest smart replies, allowing users to respond to any message without typing.

Microsoft's voice assistant is listed as a contact in Skype, allowing users to have natural conversations in one-on-one chats with the voice assistant.

“Get answers to your burning questions, like the name of the lead actor in your favorite movie or what the weather outlook is for the weekend. You can also ask Cortana to check your flight status, give you a stock quote, or suggest the best restaurants in your area,” said the Skype Team.

“With Cortana, we've added a powerful, intelligent assistant to help you with your everyday tasks right where you are and save you time.”

Cortana in Skype will be gradually rolled out to Android and iOS users in the US. Microsoft did not say when or if the feature will come to Skype users in the UK or Europe.
