HP has announced a large step forward in considerably improving the shelf life of home printed digital photos with the introduction of its new range of 'Vivera' colour ink cartridges.
Promising 'vivid, true-to-life images with more than twice the fade resistance of shop-processed prints at 50 cents per page' HP is keen to keep its foot in the door as digital photography development stays at home.
Rebekah O'Flaherty, vice president and general manager of the Imaging & Printing Group at HP South Pacific, believes HP's aim is “to continually innovate to provide consumers with options for greater convenience, control and quality”.
The new Vivera range of inkjet cartridges is designed to bring lower cost home photographic printing into the foreground at as low as just 50c per print when purchased bundled with paper and either a three-ink or six-ink cartridge. Long life ink is the real difference, giving black and white photos a lifetime of up to 115 years of fade resistance and 108 years in three-colour ink when correctly stored, displayed and handled.
HP's Vivera cartridges have a form of smart technology, warning users when ink levels are low, giving them time to replace them. HP also alluded to this system linking with a local distributor and allowing you to buy online before your cartridges run dry. While they couldn't put a date on it, this is slated for some time in the next six to 12 months.
HP are selling 95 series 7ml Tri-Colour inkjet Vivera print cartridges with their HP 99 Photo Vivera inkjet 13ml cartridges and 125 sheets of 4x6” borderless Premium Plus photo paper bundled for $62.50 -- approximately 50c per print. The cartridges will work with HP Photosmart 8450/8150 photo printers, 2710/2610 Photosmart All-in-One printers and 6840/6540 and 5740 Deskjet series printers. The packs are due to go on sale February 2005.
