Melbourne NBN provider Tangerine Telecom expands to mobile with 4G plans

NBN provider Tangerine Telecom has expanded into mobile voice and data with the launch of a range of 4G plans on the Telstra mobile network.

The SIM-only plans start at $15 per month with 1GB of mobile data, including unlimited calls and SMS and 120 minutes of international calls to 64 countries. The other plans include more data of up to 9GB.

“With the rapid decline the industry is seeing in the use of home phones, it’s important that Tangerine has a competitive mobile plan that offers wide-reaching national coverage to consumers,” Tangerine chief executive Andrew Branson said.

“The Telstra network allows us to provide this long-awaited service, and we are currently in the process of marketing these plans to new and existing customers.”

He highlighted the reach of Telstra’s 4G network, which he said covered 96.5 percent of the Australian population or 98.8 percent when combined with 3G coverage.

“With this access to the Telstra 3G and 4G network there is no limit to what we are going to see in the near future when it comes to innovation in the communications industry,” Branson said.

“For us it will start with an NBN 4G backup, which will ensure that households connected to the NBN with Tangerine always have access to internet services, even if there are difficulties with the NBN network.”
