Sean Duca has departed his role as chief technology officer at Intel Security (formerly McAfee) to join Palo Alto Networks as vice president and regional chief security officer for APAC.
Duca told CRN the time was right to move on, adding Palo Alto's growth had sold him on the move. "This is just the next step in my career, and it just seemed like the right time," said Duca. "I’ve been with McAfee for 15 years, and I’ve always been in security, so it was a natural progression."
Duca joined McAfee in 2000, and has been held senior managerial and sales roles there for the past 15 years. He was appointed the CTO in November 2013.
He also represented McAfee as a member of the Australian Government's Online Safety Consultative Working Group, consulting with Department of Communication’s parliamentary secretary Paul Fletcher. During this time, Duca worked with Life Education to teach over 160,000 primary school students in basic cyber security measures.
"The big thing for me is the leadership aspect," said Duca. "Right now, security is something affecting not just people, but also businesses, organisations and countries. We’re in the process of trying to push how to protect against large scale attacks, rather than pushing reports that don’t give practical solutions. So we really want to educate people around that."
McAfee's APAC president Andrew Littleproud also departed in April to join Blue Coat Systems as its vice president.
Intel Security has been reached for comment. It is yet to announce a replacement CTO.
