Paul Reid will replace Steve Rust as the managing director of Panasonic Australia. Rust is retiring after seven years in the role. He joined the company in 2006 and took up residence in the corner office in 2007.
Rust is a well-known figure in the Australian IT industry, having held top and senior roles at companies as diverse as Ingram Micro, Apple Australia, Toshiba and Nortel Networks.
During his tenure at Panasonic, the company says significant improvements were made to the business including the promotion of plasma television sales to the highest market share outside of Japan. He also oversaw the establishment and growth of the Lumix camera brand and helped to reframe the ruggedised computing market with the Panasonic Toughbook.
Rust lead the company's expansion from traditional into digital marketing and had an active hands on role in starting the computer and television recycling company ANZRP where he is a director and chair of the audit, governance and risk subcommittee.
He finishes up at the end of March.
The new managing director, Reid, is returning to Australia from his current role as the chief of Panasonic's Nordic region which includes Norway, Finland, Denmark and Sweden.
