Malwarebytes appoints Vikas Uberoy as channel manager

Cybersecurity vendor Malwarebytes has appointed Vikas Uberoy as the channel manager for Australia and New Zealand.

Uberoy will be responsible for engaging with the company's 700 existing local partners as well as expand its channel ecosystem.

"It is a good experience to start in a company where I don't have to start from scratch," Uberoy said about the existent channel partners.

Uberoy has more than 15 years' experience in the industry, having worked for companies including Avnet, Trend Micro, Sophos and others. He was most recently Sophos SMB business manager and held a partner manager role both at Sophos and Trend Micro.

The company has recently updated its channel program, introducing new partner levels gold and platinum. Previously, the company worked with one partner tier, being silver. The new categories are invite-only.

"We have a partner friendly program with a lot of opportunities for partners to make a lot of money and additional margin," Uberoy said.

Malwarebytes has Cloud Distribution as its sole distributor in Australia.

Apart from Uberoy, the company counts on regional director Jim Cook, who left Fortinet in September 2016, and two technicians, one in Sydney and another in Melbourne.

Malwarebytes has been in Australia since October but the company's solution was already present in the country through its partner community.

US-based Malwarebytes was founded by Marcin Kleczynski, who as a teenager infected his parent's computer and became a self-taught programmer with the goal to create a "better malware-fighter".

Its flagship product, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, has a "highly advanced heuristic" detection engine that has removed more than five billion malicious threats from computers worldwide.

The cybersecurity vendor has 10,000 customers worldwide and its business offering starts with a free reactive product which can be upgraded to an enterprise level proactive protection under subscription.
