LG to build Google Nexus 6 and Nexus smartwatch

Google is once again turning to LG to create its next flagship phone, the Nexus 6.

That's according to Gizmodo Germany, which reports that the Nexus 6 will be a "lightweight" version of the forthcoming LG G3. Both the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 handsets were made by LG, so it's no surprise that Google is turning to the Korean company for the next Nexus.

Quite what "lightweight" means is open to question – whether it refers to stripped-back specs or a physically lighter handset is unclear. The LG G3 will reportedly arrive packing a 5.5in QHD screen along with an octa-core LG Odin processor and 3GB RAM – plus a 13MP camera that's capable of delivering some stunningly detailed images.

Don't expect the Nexus 6 to drop around Google I/O in June, though - Google will want to stick to a yearly cycle between smartphone releases, and with the Nexus 5 launching in October last year, it'll be the second half of the year before we see its successor. More likely to launch at Google I/O is the rumoured Nexus smartwatch, which like the Nexus 6 will reportedly be a collaborative effort between LG and Google.
