LG Electronics has announced plans to introduce 10 smart mobile devices in the fourth quarter of this year, including the company's first Android-based tablet PC.
The tablet will form part of a growing LG commitment to the Google mobile operating system, according to the firm.
LG claimed that the tablet will deliver "vastly superior performance" compared to similar devices on the market, while still "managing to be thinner and lighter".
The announcement confirms that the 'Apple iPhone effect' has now transferred to tablet PCs after the launch of the iPad.
Rival manufacturers Samsung, Toshiba and Dell have all made similar announcements, and even Cisco jumped on the bandwagon last week with its Cius business tablet.
LG also revealed that it has two smartphones in its Optimus Series pipeline that will incorporate the latest Android 2.2 version of the platform.
The LG Optimus One will come with ready integration to Google's Android Market, while, as the name suggests, the LG Optimus Chic is designed for the more fashion conscious gadget consumer.
"The LG Optimus Series is aimed at challenging the notion that one device can meet the needs of many," said Dr Skott Ahn, president and chief executive of LG Electronics, in a statement.
"We want to provide devices that suit all needs and simplify people's lives. "
