Lenovo said it is launching three towers and two rack x86 servers to fit the varying needs of businesses ranging in size from one to 500 employees.
According to Matt Steele director of workstation and server at Lenovo A/NZ, the product is built for users who may or may not be technical.
“We want to make this product easy to access and buy and we want the target to be on the SMB market,” said Steele.
Ingram Micro and Dicker Data will distribute Lenovo’s ThinkServer range in Australia.
According to Steele, Lenovo decided to extend its relationship with its existing distribution partners to simplify the already arduous process of launching a new product range.
The vendor will provide extensive training for resellers and distributors by flying in experts from the US, said Steele.
“We want to enable channel partners to sell to SMBs,” he added.
The ThinkServer family is available with Microsoft Windows Server or SUSE Linux Enterprise Server from Novell however Steele said the vendor will remain flexible.
"We can ship with no operating system and no hard drive and distributors can add value and alter configurations," he said.
Philip Cronin general manager at Intel A/NZ said we are faced with uncertain economic times and hopefully this will make a difference to businesses here.
“It gives opportunity to bring real efficiency and productivity which is needed," added Cronin.
The ThinkServers are sold as part of Lenovo’s TopSeller program that combines select configurations for SMBs.
