Demand for executives continues to grow according to executive search company E.L Consulting.
Its monthly Executive Demand Index found that Executives across many industry sectors were experiencing demand as never before.
E.L Consulting's MD Grant Montgomery, said the findings came despite new industrial relations changes which should have caused an element of caution to creep into the employment market.
“Executive employment is a leading indicator of general employment so we can expect equal buoyancy in the general employment market over the next six months,” he said in a statement.
With the arguably more open market engendered by the IR changes coupled with a continued skill shortage, wages were likely to lift substantially, Montgomery said.
“Employers will always pay more for more productive individuals and with the increased freedom to redesign the workplace around them this sure to bid up wages as a whole,” he said.
“Far from holding off firing most successful employers have held off increasing their general staff levels until they are sure they are hiring under the new legislation.”
However when looking at ICT, the index found that the sector had headed back to its erratic ways, losing five percent compared with the previous month.
Queensland saw a significant gain in Queensland while Western Australia saw a significant loss.
“However, advertising on the web continues to contribute positively to the overall result, with the “techies” more than happy to do all their searching via the internet as opposed to old-fashioned newspapers,” the report said.
“It can be said that the IT Index has been on an upward trend since the end of 2004.”
