The first Australian summit for HTG Peer Groups is set to occur in late May. The summit is the first HTG peer event to happen outside the United States.
According to Zaun Bhana, managing director of Leap Consulting, in Perth, and a member of HTG Peer Groups, the organisation is a valuable channel for IT entrepreneurs to meet, compare experiences and create plans for their businesses.
“[HTG] helps resellers focus on business plans, where they want to take their business, a leadership plan and life plans, such as work life balance and family,” Bhana said. “And then legacy plan which is figuring out what are you doing it for. Many of us are accidental entrepreneurs!”
The HTG Peer Groups boasts sponsors including Microsoft, Intel and Cisco, all organisations which rely extensively on channel partners for their success. “They became involved because they want to see their reseller partners grow, mature and become successful,” Bhana said.
The mentorship of the organisation became apparent to Bhana when his business partner’s spouse became seriously ill with cancer. “He’s the technical person, I am the business and marketing person,” he said.
Sadly, the partner’s wife died, leaving her husband with two children under ten, along with the responsibility for helping run the business.
Bhana said because Leap had used the resources and networks from HTG, they had previously focused on resourcing and legacy planning. “We spent a lot of time planning and putting these things into practice,” he said.
The result was the business partner was able to take six months away from the business, with no loss of continuity or business growth. “We were in a position where people could step up into leadership roles, and we could continue to grow the business even in his absence,” Bhana said.
The HTG ANZ Summit will take place in Melbourne on May 21-22, and will include a leadership forum along with an M&A workshop.
