HTC launches Vive Pro virtual reality headset for businesses

HTC has launched a commercial version of its Vive virtual reality (VR) headset, the Vive Pro 2.0 Kit, aimed to commercial users to help develop and deliver VR experiences for their businesses.

The device retails for $1999, including the Vive Pro head-mounted display (HMD), SteamVR tracking 2.0, two base stations and two controllers.

HTC also announced its Vive Enterprise Advantage professional service, which include commercial licensing and service utilities for the Vive Pro, giving resellers the “flexibility and control” to manage Vive deployments and updates.

“Enterprise VR is transforming the way businesses operate and interact with their employees and customers. We are bringing the market a premium VR experience with a high-resolution display, integrated audio and the best components available today in a headset,” HTC VIVE US general manager Daniel O’Brien said.

“Vive Pro offers an immediate upgrade for businesses that want to utilise the most innovative technology to optimize their business and streamline their processes.”

The Vive Pro’s workspace is 6x6 metres and will support up to 10x10 metres with multiple base stations. HTC said individual base stations would be available for purchase separately at a later date.

The VR kit also includes a higher display resolution and an extended tracking area, while also making the deployment behind a company firewall easier.
