HP unveils ‘world’s thinnest laptop’: Spectre 13

HP has launched a sleek, ultra-light and ultra-thin laptop at a luxury conference in France.

The Spectre 13 has a chassis of just 10.4mm, matching the diameter of a AAA battery and making it the “world’s thinnest laptop”, according to HP. That claim is based on HP’s analysis of vendors that manufacture bulk orders of laptops that have a clamshell design, run Windows or OSX and are priced above US$400 ($530).

The Spectre 13 contains a carbon fibre bottom, which helps keep its weight down to 1.11kg. It features a 13.3” diagonal edge-to-edge display and uses Intel Core i5 and i7 processors.

Maximum battery time exceeds nine hours, while the laptop offers storage of up to 512GB and memory of up to 8GB.

Designers Tord Boontje and Jess Hannah helped design the Spectre 13, which was unveiled at the New York Times International Luxury Conference in Versailles.

“High-gloss copper accents reflect a hand-polished, jewelry-like finish and an innovative hidden piston hinge creates the illusion of a hinge-less design to offer an unmatched premium look and feel,” according to HP.

The laptop is available on pre-order at a starting price of US$1,170.
