Fabrik's products include G-Technology (external storage for the Mac and content creation) and SimpleTech, PC external storage and backup.
A Hitachi spokesman said it allows access to personnel, resources, channel partners and a portfolio of products and to compete in the personal storage market.
"Hitachi (Hitachi Global Storage Technologies) expects to retain, strengthen and build upon Fabrik's network of retail customers and channel partners," the company said.
Fabric co-founder and chief executive officer Mike Cordano has joined Hitachi as executive vice president of sales and marketing and president of branded business.
He will manage its external storage business and worldwide sales and marketing organisations.
Cordano is a 20-year data storage industry veteran and previously served as executive vice president of worldwide sales and marketing at Maxtor Corporation.
The company will support the G-Technology and SimpleTech product lines.
Fabrik is yet to release details of when its products will be available to Australian resellers.
