Govt opens submissions for next phase of cyber strategy

Australia's Department of Home Affairs has released a request for submissions on Horizon 2 of the 2023-2030 Australian Cyber Security Strategy.

The move comes after a discussion paper was released back in July to seek stakeholder’s views on the outcomes to be achieved.

The department received over 170 submissions in response and is now undertaking further consultation and industry co-design on specific actions and initiatives.

The Cyber Security Strategy sets up a framework for government to take action to uplift Australia’s cyber maturity and preparedness over three horizons, aiming to making Australia a world-leader in cyber security by 2030.

Horizon 1 began in 2023, when the government's cyber security policy was introduced, and has already seen the government address critical gaps in its cyber shields, build better protections for vulnerable citizens and businesses and support cyber maturity uplift across the region.

In Horizon 2, taking place between 2026 and 2028, the government will aim to make further investments in the broader cyber ecosystem, continuing to scale up the cyber industry and grow a diverse cyber workforce.

Horizon 3, from 2029 until 2030, the government will lead the development of emerging critical technologies capable of adapting to new risks and opportunities across the cyber landscape.
