The federal government has added nine more suppliers to its Cloud Services Panel, including some of the big names lacking from the initial announcement.
When the Department of Finance revealed the panel earlier this month, it was missing many of the country's largest infrastructure-as-a-service suppliers that had appeared on the panel's predecessor, the Data Centre-as-a-Service (DCaaS) multi-use list.
CRN spoke to a number of DCaaS suppliers who had missed a berth on the initial Cloud Service Panel, with several assuring us they were just waiting on paperwork to be signed.
On Friday, Finance added nine more suppliers to the panel: Dimension Data Australia, SMS Management & Technology, Infront, iiNet, RXP Services, Envisian, Emantra, Cloud Solutions Group and Hypernode.
The suppliers join the forty-nine foundation members revealed earlier this month.
"Being on the Cloud Services Panel is a terrific boost to niche operators and independent consultants like us," said Envisian director of cloud consulting, Shane Lyell.
"It’s certainly an endorsement of our expertise in the cloud space and an acknowledgement of the contribution smaller, agile, future-focused operators can bring to the table."
The Cloud Services Panel is set to take over from the existing DCaaS multi-use list in October. CRN reported last week that only $2 million of procurement has gone through the DCaaS since it started in 2012.
The new list is meant to cover a broader definition of cloud, with four activities included: software-as-a-service, platform-as-a-service, infrastructure-as-a-service and cloud consulting.
