Google extends Android enterprise partner program

Google has extended its Android enterprise partner program by creating a list of recommended enterprise mobility management (EMM) vendors.

Google launched the “Android Enterprise Recommended” program in early 2018. The first part of the program saw Google endorse seven Android handset vendors as suitable for enterprise buyers on grounds that their products offered high levels of manageability and security.

The new “Android Enterprise Recommended program for Enterprise Mobility Management” adds a list of EMM vendors that Google is satisfied have the right technology to deploy Android devices into business. The nine vendors are BlackBerry, Google Cloud, I3 Systems, IBM, Microsoft, MobileIron, Softbank, SOTI, and VMware.

The criteria for inclusion in the program include:

  • Experience across multiple Android Enterprise management sets
  • Proven ability to deliver advanced security and management features
  • A consistent deployment experience, with admin consoles that simplify set-up of Android Enterprise
  • Documentation and guides that provide best practices for Android Enterprise set-up and configuration
  • Google-trained personnel across field sales, technical pre-sales and deployment support
  • Commitment to staying current on the latest Android product features and training requirements

With both handset and EMM vendors now anointed as suitable for business buyers, Google’s guidance to the wider channel on who to work with when selling Android couldn’t be clearer! But the news may leave some channel players on the wrong side of Google’s list, as the likes of Citrix, Micro Focus and Okta are yet to score a place in the Recommended program. The door is open for them to do so, as Google says it will “add more partners over time.”
