Google App Engine wobbles after DNS mess

Google has revealed its Google App Engine had a brief outage overnight Sydney time, with DNS lookup failures across Google Cloud applications.

Google's incident report was vague - it describes a "Rollback of the potential fix to mitigate the issue", but doesn't describe what needs rolling back!

The report did notify customers that the rollback was at 50 percent completion at 10:09 am US Pacific time (PT) on Tuesday or 3:09 am Sydney time today. The company expected the issue to be mitigated in 1.5 hours.

The fix was fully applied at 12:29 pm PT (5:29 am Sydney time), and said the DNS lookup failures “should be resolved for the majority of projects”.

The company confirmed at 1:39 pm PT (6:39 am Sydney time) that the issue had been resolved for all projects as of 12:21 pm PT (5:29 am Sydney time).
