Logicalis has deployed network infrastructure for the new regional headquarters of Garmin in western Sydney.
Garmin – a multinational best known for its GPS devices – recently opened its Australasian headquarters in western Sydney to accommodate its rapid growth. Solutions provider Logicalis announced that it had built the corporate network for the purpose-built facility.
"With limited internal IT resources, Garmin tasked Logicalis with realising his vision of a corporate network infrastructure that would satisfy Garmin's needs for the next decade," said the announcement.
The North Ryde-based Logicalis deployed the wireless network, LAN and Cisco Identity Services Engine for security for both the office and the warehouse at the new complex.
The Eastern Creek facility is now Garmin's distribution centre for Australia and New Zealand, as well as a depot for aviation equipment for the entire Asia-Pacific region – meaning WAN links from overseas were also part of Logicalis' remit.
"Logicalis facilitated the undertaking in designing the architecture for all the switching and networking as well as getting all [of Garmin's] different links in from remote sites in Manila and its head office in Kansas," stated Logicalis.
The Sydney warehouse now ships products directly to customers on behalf of Garmin resellers, resulting in a "more efficient supply chain" but increased responsibilities for the manufacturer.
General manager for Garmin Australasia, Matt DeMoss, said: "Looking ahead we said we need to have a place that not only fit where we are today and where we know we are going but also the technologies and businesses that we may not know about today but we will be involved in tomorrow."
Garmin is a US company that employs more than 9200 "associates" in 35 locations around the world. Logicalis is the integration arm of $5 billion global IT giant Datatec, which also owns distributor Westcon.
