Fujitsu goes green with data centre upgrade
The company announced today that it has appointed Sydney-based technology services provider The Frame Group to lead design, build, delivery and project management consultant for the data centre upgrade.

In accordance with the agreement, Frame will work with Fujitsu on spatial design, power, equipment, infrastructure and remote management systems to be installed in the upgraded Homebush facility.

According to Fujitsu’s General Manager of Data Centre Services, Michael Gunton, Frame was selected for the data centre upgrade for its green outlook, as well as its experience and expertise.

“Frame’s environmental sustainability methodology and strategic framework is very impressive,” Gunton said, “and it conveyed an optimistic approach in being able to meet our aggressive timeframe for the project.”

The upgrade of Fujitsu’s Homebush facility is touted as a step in line with the company’s commitment to considering the environmental impact of all of its operations and its policy on reducing carbon emissions.

“We’re concentrating our know-how and resources on reducing the environmental burden of IT infrastructure and helping our customers reduce their carbon footprint. The Homebush upgrade fits the bill on both counts,” Gunton said.

Effective spatial layout planning in the upgraded data centre is expected to minimise thermal currents. In addition to hybrid cooling, the data centre will use recycled chilled water and air cooling devices deployed in conjunction with advanced power management techniques to deliver greater efficiencies.

Fujitsu expects to have lettable space available for occupation by the end of this month, all areas of the 1,500m² data centre ready for occupation by September this year.
