Fujitsu and Citrix ink virtualisation deal

Computing hardware vendor Fujitsu and networking giant Citrix today announced a new partnership which could make it easier for enterprise customers to reduce the cost and complexity of implementing virtual desktop infrastructures.

The original equipment manufacture agreement will see Fujitsu integrate Citrix XenDesktop with "high definition" HDX technology into its Virtual Workplace and Managed Virtual Workplace solutions to enable the speedy deployment of desktops to end users, said Fujitsu.

The Japanese firm said that it will also add Citrix XenServer virtualisation to its Primergy rack and blade server products.

As part of the deal, Fujitsu's Primergy RX and BX servers have been certified for Citrix XenServer, while virtualisation management offerings XenServer and Citrix Essentials for XenServer will be integrated with Primergy server management, to give customers a wide array of virtualisation management solutions for XenServer environments.

"As a result of its deep technology expertise in desktop virtualisation, Citrix was a natural partner for our Virtual Workplace and Managed Virtual Workplace product and services offering," said Dieter Herzog, executive vice president of Fujitsu's technology solutions portfolio.

"By combining Fujitsu hardware with Citrix desktop virtualisation software, we are delivering comprehensive products and services that help customers quickly and cost-effectively take advantage of the switch to a centralised desktop management and delivery."
