Fujitsu A/NZ and VMWare agree on OEM servers
David Blackman, partner director for VMware A/NZ, said Australia is on a fast-track to virtualisation, with VMware posting triple-digit growth year-over-year in the country during the first quarter of 2008.

“This agreement makes it even easier for companies in Australia and New Zealand to gain the efficiency and productivity benefits of a virtual data centre,” he said.

According to Blackman, as part of the agreement the Fujitsu support group will provide 24/7 VMware support services out of its operations in North Ryde, Sydney. This complements the existing levels of hardware support services that are run from the same location.

“In addition, Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand now has general availability of Systemwalker Resource Coordinator Virtual Server Edition (RCVE), a complementary product to VMware virtualization that further enhances business continuity,” he said.

Blackman said Systemwalker RCVE enables control of both physical and virtualised blade servers via a single management view. This allows an integrated solution of Primergy servers and Eternus storage to provide fail-over capability to both physical and VMware virtualised servers.

According to Julian Badell, manager of strategic products at Fujitsu A/NZ, Fujitsu will sell VMware Infrastructure 3 on Fujitsu’s PRIMERGY line of industry-standard servers and provide local Level 1 and Level 2 support. The vendor currently has similar OEM agreements with VMware in other regions including Japan and Europe.
