Fortinet partners with Police Veterans Victoria for cybersecurity

In a move to address the global cybersecurity skills gap, security vendor Fortinet, has partnered with Police Veterans Victoria (PVV) to provide free cybersecurity training.

The effort is set to launch this month.

It aims to equip police veterans with essential cybersecurity skills, facilitating their transition into civilian life while simultaneously tackling the critical shortage of cybersecurity professionals.

The programme will offer Fortinet's Network Security Expert (NSE) Certification, providing veterans with advanced cybersecurity skills to meet the evolving threat landscape.

Participants will have access to a range of courses, from foundational knowledge to advanced architecture, including Fortinet Networking Fundamentals, Fortinet Certified Fundamentals, Fortinet Certified Associate, and Fortinet Certified Professional.

According to Fortinet's 2024 Global Cybersecurity Skills Gap Report, an estimated 3.4 million cybersecurity positions remain unfilled globally, with 70 per cent of respondents in Australia and New Zealand believing this shortage creates additional risks for their organisations.

"This partnership with Police Veterans Victoria marks a first-of-its-kind partnership for Fortinet. It recognises the invaluable contributions of police members and helps to address the challenges of identity loss that can occur during their transition out of active duty," Nicole Quinn, head of government affairs, APAC at Fortinet, said.

"By providing the opportunity for police veterans to train in cybersecurity, these individuals are empowered to develop new, in-demand skills that not only enhance their professional qualifications but also instil a renewed sense of purpose," David McGowan, chief executive officer of Police Veterans Victoria, said.
