Fluccs acquires hosting business from itGenius, will reverse clients out of Google, Rackspace

Brisbane cloud provider Fluccs has acquired the hosting business and customers from HostGenius for an undisclosed amount.

HostGenius' sister company itGenius will retain the domain name registration, while the remaining customers will be migrated from Google Cloud and Rackspace to Fluccs' own cloud services.

itGenius managing director Peter Moriarty told CRN the company was looking to divest from its hosting business to focus on its core Google Cloud and Dialpad VoIP businesses.

“After working with Fluccs for seven years, I regard them as the Australian cloud leader, and they will be helping to take our web hosting business to new heights,” Moriarty said.

Fluccs chief executive Angus Thomson said the acquisition was made all the sweeter with the proposition that customers would be migrated from Google and Rackspace clouds to Fluccs' own Australian servers.

“This acquisition means Fluccs will be instrumental in reducing Australian business’ reliance on foreign multinational cloud providers and boosting local cloud business,” he said. “We will be migrating the clients from servers owned by Google and Rackspace – US companies, to our Australian owned and located cloud.”

Fluccs and HostGenius have both seen their fair share of acquisitions as Australia's hosting sector continues to consolidate even further.

Earlier this month, Fluccs acquired fellow managed cloud service provider Exigent along with two of its associated brands, 10TB Servers and Virtual DC. Meanwhile, HostGenius acquired smaller rival Speedhost.com.au in June last year, followed by itGenius picking up the assets and customers of Google partner Chromeworx when it entered liquidation in October. Two months later, itGenius made its third acquisition of the year by buying the Google practice of cloud consultancy firm Cloud Logic.

Looking at wider hosting sector consolidation, Digital Pacific was recently acquired by US-based Deluxe Corp for $52 million, bringing Panthur, Anchor, Crucial and Hostopia all under one roof. Just last week, Brisbane-based Oz Servers sold its customers and assets to NSW-based Servers Australia.
