Exclusive: Samsung Series 9 Australian launch, pricing revealed

Samsung’s ultra-thin Series 9 notebook will land in Australia in early June, the company has confirmed to CRN.

The notebook was first unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in January and has been touted as a rival to Apple’s MacBook Air.

The 13.3in Series 9 notebook has a 12.9mm high body, while the comparable 13.3in MacBook Air has a height of 17.2mm. The Series 9 weighs in at 1.16kg to the MacBook Air’s 1.35kg.

It is also thinner and lighter than the 15mm high, 1.35kg Acer Aspire S5, which was recently touted as the world's thinnest notebook.

The Series 9 will be available in 13.3in and 15in models, for $1599 and $1899 respectively.

The prototype Series 9 is powered by Intel’s Core i5 processor, but a Samsung spokesperson told CRN that is likely to change before the notebook’s release, hinting at possible use of Intel’s just-released Ivy Bridge chips
