Assuming responsibilities on 29 June, Wells will report to Avaya's president Asia Pacific, John DiLullo, from the company's Sydney office.
Wells will be responsible for directing the business and day to day operations through its next phase of growth.
He is tasked with driving Avaya's overall business strategy in A/NZ and strengthening its position in its core areas of Unified Communications and contact centers.
Wells is a seasoned veteran in the information technology industry with 25 years of sales, operations and general management experience in enterprise software, telecommunications and computing.
He joins Avaya following four years at SAP/Business Objects where he was the vice president of A/NZ.
Prior to SAP, he enjoyed eight successful years in a broad variety of high-impact roles at PeopleSoft including the vice president of North Asia and the managing director for A/NZ sales operations.
Wells also held senior leadership roles at both Sequent Systems and Unisys.
He said it was a fortunate time to be taking over the A/NZ operations.
"The current economic climate has created an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Avaya to deliver business value," he said.
