Ex-Dimension Data Australia boss to lead 'military-grade' cyber security firm
Rodd Cunico

Former Dimension Data chief executive Rodd Cunico has been appointed chief executive of cybersecurity firm Alata Group, almost a year after departing the global systems integrator.

Alata Group, which describes itself as "an Australian provider of military-grade intelligence and cyber security solutions and services", was founded by a group of “former military, elite offensive cyber, and counter terrorism personnel”.

The company’s executive team consists of several ex-military professionals across special operations and cyber warfare intelligence.

Cunico joins the company this week after a hiatus from leading Dimension Data’s Australian operation between 2011-2016. At Alata, he will lead all aspects of the company’s operations from its regional headquarters in Melbourne.

"After working with the Alata advisory board for several months I am incredibly excited to be joining the team as chief executive officer,” Cunico said.

“The threat from cyber and terrorist actors has never been greater. Almost daily we hear of organisations and nation states that have been compromised, lost critical business or customer data, held to ransom, or suffered material damage to their reputations.

"I have watched these risks amplify in line with the adoption of mobile devices, social applications, cloud computing and the ever-increasing range of internet and digital services including IoT connected devices," Cunico said.

“To effectively respond to this escalating threat landscape, it is critical that Australian businesses and government departments and agencies can access world-class intelligence and cyber security skills, methodologies and technologies. Ultimately that’s what the Alata Group brings to the table.”

Cunico departed from Dimension Data last September, to be replaced by Steve Nola, who had been Cunico's predecessor as DiData's country head.
