Equinix offers private Oracle Cloud access in Sydney

Equinix will offer customers dedicated, private access to Oracle Cloud through its Sydney data centre starting today.

Connection is available through Oracle's FastConnect and from the Equinix Cloud Exchange. The partnership gives customers access to Oracle's infrastructure-as-a-service and platform-as-a-service offerings.

Oracle's cloud services can be used in hybrid cloud environments to move applications, middleware and database workloads between private infrastructure and Oracle Cloud through a private connection.

The latest announcement expands on a previous partnership to provide Oracle cloud services such as database, Java, integration, analytics, compute and storage through multiple Equinix regions globally. With the addition of Sydney, Oracle Cloud is able through a private connection in five markets globally.

Oracle Australia managing director Rob Willis said the Equinix partnership expands the software giant's existing cloud offering, which includes local application delivery and public cloud.

"The availability of the new Sydney Region is already accelerating the faster adoption of services locally, as well as throughout the rest of APAC, given its proximity to Sydney as a hub. It helps us continue our commitment to giving customers unprecedented choice and flexibility in how they work and making the adoption of cloud as easy as possible,” Willis added.

Robert Blackburn, Equinix global managing director, Oracle strategic alliance, said that the option to connect directly to Oracle Cloud was essential for companies deploying workloads into the cloud.

"By providing direct access, our mutual customers can create a high-speed, dedicated, and low-latency connection that allows them to fully realise the benefits of hybrid deployment.  We look forward to ongoing collaborations with Oracle, bringing this solution to additional Equinix data centres across the globe,” said Blackburn.
