Empired has been chosen as a key subcontractor to Western Australia's whole-of-government IT procurement panel under NEC Australia.
The GovNext-ICT initiative requires all WA government departments to purchase all IT services through one contract with three providers: NEC Australia, Datacom, and Atos.
The state government is expected to spend $15 million in services through the panel over the five-year contract term, with an option to extend for a further five years. The deal was struck with the three IT providers earlier this year, in a move that is expected to save the state between $65 million and $80 million.
NEC has chosen Empired for an exclusive role within its consortium as a subcontractor to provide the core collaboration functions in a cloud environment for the GovNext-ICT platform. Empired will also deliver centralised directory services, centralised identity services and certificate authority.
Services will be provided on a per-user, consumption-based pricing model.
Empired said the service had the potential to scale beyond the 140,000 WA government users based on broader agency takeup of the GovNext-ICT platform.

Much like NEC, Empired is no stranger to large government IT projects, having been named on the federal government's cloud services panel for 2017.
