EMC, better known as an enterprise data storage vendor, has jumped into the managed services game.
Under the storage giant's "residency services" banner, EMC professional services staff would be placed at a customer site to manage storage operations.
Its managed utility services combined onsite services with "pay-as-you-go" asset procurement while its storage management services would see onsite EMC staff provide SLA-based storage management support.
The managed services will be offered directly to customers using the vendor's in-house services team, with rates "comparable" to competitors such as EDS, director technology services, Tony Simonsen, said.
EMC partner and alliances manager, David Henderson said the managed services team will help to train partners deliver these services.
“This will be an opportunity for resellers to add to their portfolio of security, call centre or SAP migration products and services,’ said Henderson.
Henderson said EMC charges $7500 per year to train a reseller technician to in any of its 15 levels of certification.
“We are deadly series about resellers doing services. LAN Systems manages our smaller resellers who don’t have the finances or time to train. LAN will offer these resellers the capability to on-sell,” he said.
