The Australian Department of Defence has awarded a contract worth $72.3 million to geographic information system (GIS) technology and services provider Esri Australia.
"Defence entered into a 36-month contract with Esri to provide continued licensing and support for its GIS technology," a Defence spokesperson told techpartner.news.
The contract runs through until 30 June 2029.
Its understood by techpartner.news that Esri software is widely used across Defence to collect, analyse and disseminate geospatial information.
Esri is the exclusive local distributor of Esri’s ArcGIS platform, which combines spatial analytics, field operations, mapping, 3D GIS, imagery and remote sensing and data collection and management.
In 2025, Esri Australia won a $1.55 million contract with the Western Australian Police Force to support daily operational crime prevention and law enforcement activities.
