Dell launches new Android and Windows tablets

Dell has launched a new range of tablets, including the Venue 11 Pro, which appears to be following in the footsteps of the Microsoft Surface.

The 11in Venue Pro comes with a range of keyboard options, including the Surface-esque, fabric-backed Slim Keyboard, which mirrors Microsoft's Type Cover design, without actually building the stand into the device itself.

The Venue Pro can also slot into the sturdier Mobile Keyboard, which includes its own battery, as well as a dedicated docking station for desktop use. It also includes a stylus.

The Windows 8.1-based Venue 11 Pro has a Full HD IPS display, and can be configured with a range of Intel processors, starting from a 2.4GHz Atom chip right through to a 1.6GHz Haswell Core i5. It can be specified with up to 8GB of RAM, and up to 256GB of SSD.

Dell is also releasing a smaller Venue 8 Pro, which offers a 1,280 x 800 IPS display and can only be configured with an Atom processor and up to 64GB of storage. Although clearly pitched as more of a content consumption device, it also comes with a folding keyboard option and stylus, and ships with the free version of Microsoft Office that now comes with all compact tablets.

Loca pricing and availability for the Venus range has not been released.

Android tablets

Dell isn't stopping there. It's also announced the Venue 7 and Venue 8 tablets, which lose the Pro tag because they're running Android instead of Windows 8.1, or even Windows RT.

The 7in Venue 7 has a 1,280 x 800 resolution, 1.6GHz Atom processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard storage, which can be supplemented via the MicroSD slot.

The Venue 8 has the same resolution display, but a slightly beefier 2GHz Atom processor, 2GB of RAM and 16 or 32GB of storage, as well as the card slot.

Dell has yet to announce the Australian availability or pricing for the Android tablets, but they start from $150 (Venue 7) and $180 (Venue 8) in the US.
