Datto doubles number of ANZ partners in six months
James Bergl

Backup and disaster recovery vendor Datto has doubled its number of Australian and New Zealand partners since December 2016.

Datto, which landed in Australia in September 2015, now has 200 MSPs in the ANZ region.

Datto regional director for ANZ James Bergl attributed the growth to the increase in cyber threats hitting Australian businesses.

"Locally, there is a real market need for Datto’s business continuity solutions, which is driven in part by increasingly prevalent cyber threats such as ransomware," he told CRN.

"In light of the recent international WannaCry cyber-attack, ransomware has become a household name. Small businesses are hearing and seeing first-hand the impact that cyber threats can have and are realising they need a robust security and continuity solution."

The backup and DR vendor said it was continuously investing in the local team, which is growing "quickly". Bergl told CRN Datto had recently hired additional dedicated channel managers.

"We have hired additional dedicated channel managers that are focusing on helping our partners to pitch, demonstrate and sell our continuity suite. In addition, we have hired a dedicated channel marketing manager, operations and data centre lead, and we are currently in the process of hiring a second sales engineer and local support representative," he added.

During its global annual conference DattoCon, the vendor announced new products and services, which include an expansion to Datto’s flagship all-flash SIRIS 3X line, an all-new ALTO 3 device targeting smaller environments, a new architecture for Datto SaaS protection services, updates to the new Datto networking portfolio and enhancements to Datto’s Partner Portal.

James Bergl (Datto), Rob Rae (Datto), Daniel Williams (PowerNET), Austin McChord (Datto) and Bryan Hauptman (Datto)

At the conference Datto also recognised its Australian partners, naming PowerNET as its ANZ Partner of the Year.

Interlinked took home the Community Partner of the Year and Dynamic Business Technologies was awarded the Pioneer of the Year. Dynamic Business Technologies was No. 4 on the CRN Fast50 2014.
