Datacom to open data centres in AirTrunk facilities

Datacom has partnered with AirTrunk to provided data centre services to government and enterprise customers out of its hyperscale facilities in Sydney and Melbourne.

Datacom will operate out of its own dedicated and secured data halls covering more than 1300 square metres within AirTrunk's facilities, and offer a dedicated team of onsite engineers to assist with the provision of managed services.

“Datacom@AirTrunk is a game changer for our offerings in Australia, and a key part of our strategy,” Datacom Group chief executive Greg Davidson said.

This enables our customers to deliver the truly modern solutions demanded in a world of rapid digital transformation.”

AirTrunk boasts that its Western Sydney facility will be the biggest data centre in Australasia, with a footprint of 35,000 square metres and more than 80 megawatts of IT load. The company also claims that its West Melbourne facility is the second biggest, at 23,000 square metres and more than 50 megawatts of load.

The move into AirTrunk adds to Datacom’s wide data centre presence in Australia. The managed service provider said it had positions in about 15 other third-party data centres in the country

“We will be maintaining these presences and they will continue to be served by our National Network. We will continue to ensure these customers receive the same high quality service,” a Datacom spokesperson told CRN.

Datacom’s AirTrunk presence will also bolster Datacom’s National Network, an interconnection of several data centres via tier-1 carriers to offer scalable cloud capacity to customers.

“This enables truly trans-Tasman infrastructure solutions for any ANZ businesses, and directly connects into the major public cloud providers’ local nodes. AirTrunk chief executive and founder Robin Khuda said the colocation provider was pleased to welcome Datacom into its facilities.

“Datacom will play an important role in the cloud ecosystem that we’re building within our data centres. This proximity to and direct connection with public cloud nodes will have significant benefits for Datacom’s customers,” Khuda said.

Datacom’s AirTrunk services out of Sydney will be live as of 1 August this and from 1 April in 2019 from Melbourne.
