Trans-Tasman IT firm Datacom will open its third Victorian office today in South Melbourne.

The company said it will hire 100 new local staff over the next 12 months to fill out the new South Melbourne team. This includes roles in software solutions and app development, cloud consulting and professional services.

The office will be opened by Victorian minister for small business, innovation and trade Philip Dalidakis.

"The Andrews Labor government is excited to work with companies like Datacom as Victoria’s booming tech sector spurs our transition to new industries and new jobs," Dalidakis said.

"The opening of Datacom Systems’ new South Melbourne office comes hot on the heels of a host of major investments by Australian and global tech companies that are boosting Victoria’s reputation as the number one tech destination in the Asia Pacific region."

The new office brings the total number of Datacom locations to 27, including 15 in New Zealand, 10 in Australia, and one each in Malaysia and the Philippines.

Datacom group chief executive Jonathan Ladd said: “We’re delighted to expand our footprint in Victoria, which is a thriving part of Datacom. We’d like to thank Minister Dalidakis and are proud to be working with the Victorian government and local business to help create jobs by transforming local business through the power of IT.

“We think globally, and work locally to help produce an innovation economy in Victoria and across Australia.”

At the end of the 2015 financial year, Datacom had 4,095 staff in New Zealand, 2,655 staff in Australia and 138 staff in Asia.
