Daniel Johns, a principal security consultant at MyCISO, has left the company to start his own business, a vCISO and GRC advisory practice.

Coastal Cyber will aim to provide independent cyber security advisory services to mid-market businesses across Southeast Queensland, as well as nationally "when the work calls for it".

The company will target three key sectors of financial services, healthcare and technology and SaaS.

For MSPs and the channel, the company also offers an Essential Eight independent assessment, and a 90-day program to help MSP owners build a security offering, as well as MSP governance and ISMS uplift services.

Johns was at MyCISO for close to four years, having previously served as a managing consultant at CyberCX, plus head of services at ASI Solutions for over seven years.

He also served on the executive council of CompTIA, rising to become its chair for a two-year period from 2021 to 2023.

In a post on LinkedIn, Johns described his time at MyCISO as "one of the most formative stretches" of his career.

"Thanks to Dane Meah and Simon McKay for the opportunity and the trust," he said.

"What's been built at MyCISO is real, it's very exciting, and I'm proud of the part I played in it. I look forward to seeing MyCISO's ongoing successes from the outside, and wish them the absolute best.
