Australia's technology industry never seems to have enough workers who are clued up in the latest tech. The nation has therefore offered temporary and/or permanent visas to skilled migrants in the hope that they'll bring their talents to our shores.
Those visas have often been controversial, partly because they sometimes been abused and also because they're seen as a disincentive for local talent to develop their own skills.
Those worries led the federal government to can the old 457 visa scheme. but in recent weeks the government has floated not one but two new visas to attract skilled migrants to Australia for both short periods and as permanent residence.
So CRN asked our readers what you think of those new visas. 111 of you participated in that pole and here is the result!
CRN poll results are seldom as clear-cut as this one, in which 59 percent of readers showed a clear preference for hiring people who are already in Australia. 15 percent welcomed the new visas and 19 percent said they'll use them for some hiring.
