In an announcement to the ASX, Stephen Harrison, managing director at Cellnet said the lay-off was part of Cellnet’s review of Australian staffing requirements. He said the move was due to substantial operational efficiencies and improvements made and budgeted for the financial year.
Harrison said this was a difficult process and an unfortunate consequence of the efficiency improvements it has been striving to make over the past few months.
“Although volumes processed by Cellnet have increased over the past year and were expected to continue increasing in the new financial year, the operational and process improvements made have been substantial and a consequence of this is a decrease in the overall headcount across the business,” he said.
The statement reported that the changes will largely affect the warehouse staff where 12 people will be made redundant. It will also extend to other operational departments of the business including finance, human resources and IT support.
“The sales team however has been recently extended to include additional team members in the retail accessory and IT distribution team,” he added.
