CBL is to launch a new data recovery warranty as it continues its reseller recruitment drive across Australia.
Similar to extended hardware warranties, the optional service would offer data protection for up to three years on each desktop and notebook sold.
The recovery specialist is currently in discussions with Toshiba and several whitebox players for the local launch of the service.
According to CBL Data Recovery CEO, Bill Margeson, the service would offer resellers up to 33 points of margin on top of any PC and peripherals sales.
Its current referral-based data recovery service offers resellers around 20 points.
The announcement comes as the company continues to add resellers to its books.
In August it reported a trebling of local partner numbers to 40 and has signed an additional 20 since.
With the new warranty service in place and ongoing additions to its partner program, the vendor plans to have 200 partners by the end of 2006.
“Data recovery is a numbers game so we need more partners,” Margeson said. “Customers usually can’t wait to get their data back so we need local support.”
The company is also expanding its Brisbane-based data recovery lab with a view to doubling its service capacity. Its Sydney lab continued to grow and a west coast-based lab was also under consideration.
While data recovery remained a horizontal technology, education and government continued to be profitable verticals for partners, Margeson said.
