The Attorney-General’s Department has migrated its primary in-house data centre to commercial provider Canberra Data Centre.
The $2 million deal is part of a mandated relocation under the Whole of Government Data Centre Strategy 2010-2025. Canberra Data Centre is one of five firms under the whole-of-government panel made under the Whole of Government Data Centre Strategy 2010-2025, which aims to avoid $1 billion in future costs.
“This mandated relocation is in accordance with the [strategy], which outline standards and requirements for best practice in large scale data management across federal government departments such as the Attorney-General’s Department,” a spokesperson from the department told CRN.
The migration starts from the department’s network operations centre in the Canberra suburb of Symonston and will be relocated to CDC’s facility in the suburb of Fyshwick.
“The AGD conducted an in depth analysis of the request for tender responses evaluating the technical capabilities, experience of the supplier with government clients especially those with a security profile similar to the department, and cost of the contract over a five year period.”
The department said CDC met the criteria and beat out two other providers, citing value for money, the company’s comprehensive offering and experience with government. The two other bidders were not revealed due to being commercial in confidence.
Joining CDC in the panel is TransACT, Brisbane’s iSeek, Sydney’s Global Switch and Datacom.
