Around 250 members of the IT and telecoms sector gathered in Sydney for the annual Females in IT and Telecommunications (FITT) lunch.
The not-for-profit organisation, which aims to boost the number of women working in technology industries, is hosting a similar lunch event in Melbourne today.
The FITT events, sponsored by VMware, offer women and men alike the chance to network with industry professionals, which it also provides mentoring programs.
Another focus for FITT is to promote teleworking, claiming it can improve productivity and profitability for businesses.
Recent surveys from IT recruitment companies Candle and Harvey Nash found that women are under-represented in the IT industry and that teleworking was one way to make it more accessible.
Executives from Cisco, IBM and Salesforce are among the speakers at the events.
The Sydney leg took place on 12 September and was sold out with 250 attendees. Both the additional events – in Melbourne today (19 September) and in Brisbane on 26 September – are sold out.
