BSR Group makes major IT infrastructure investment

The project includes consolidation of BSR's data centres and servers at IT firm Brennan's $3.3 million Queensland data centre.

BSR group operations manager Shane Harris said the company wanted to invest in its core IT infrastructure as a means of investing in its future.

"This investment in our IT infrastructure lays the foundation stone for the future growth and stability of the Group," said Harris.

"The investment further solidifies IBGlobal as the electrical industry's leading sales platform, offering strong reliability and functionality."

The project involves consolidation of more than 140 servers - equivalent in size to more than 26 large side-by-side fridges - into a high density Dell Power Edge blade chassis utilising an EMC Clariion CX4 as storage.

The Group will use VMware vSphere as its virtualisation platform to host a hybrid of Linux and Windows Servers.

On completion, BSR's IT team will evaluate the new technologies in Windows 2008 to further extend the Group's infrastructure and mobility services.

Harris added the project would increase service quality and provide greater technological stability to BSR's 153 retailers across Australia.

"We want to ensure our franchise members are given the best possible support to maximise their opportunities when the good times return," he said.

"This upgrade will go a long way towards achieving that goal, while aligning with our quest to become a greener and more socially responsible corporate citizen by reducing our energy consumption and physical footprint even further."

Harris added the Group has chosen to partner with Brennan due to its long-standing relationship which had given the IT firm a unique understanding of the business needs required by BSR and its franchise members.

"BSR chose to partner with Brennan as they are one of the most qualified and experienced technology providers in Queensland, with the highest level of certifications in VMware, EME and Microsoft," he said.
