BMC Software and cloud consortium VCE will collaborate in the development of converged infrastructure solutions for cloud computing under the terms of a strategic alliance announced today.
VCE is a partnership between VMware, Cisco and EMC which has the Vblock cloud development platform as its flagship offering.
The two groups said they would strive to improve the interoperability and integration of their respective solutions while also agreeing to cross promotion in the market.
BMC said it hoped the two groups would collaborate to improve the functionality of BMC solutions including Cloud Lifecycle Management and ProactiveNet Performance Management Suite, a set of technologies for the easier management of complex Vblock platform infrastructures.
Frank Hauck, president of VCE said the alliance would lead to the “further simplifying and automating [of] management processes for the benefit of our mutual customers”.
Mutual customers in Australia include Telstra, Harris Technology and QTS (Quality Training Solutions).
David Greene, BMC's worldwide VP of marketing, said despite predictions cloud solutions would remain the domain of enterprise-scale solutions, the market is seeing strong demand from the mid-market, especially for “well managed cloud-out-of-the-box solutions”.
“VCE came to market for the largest enterprises but increasingly we are seeing smaller companies attracted to the platform,” Greene said.
“Mid-sized companies place higher value on integrated, pre validated solutions.”
Greene added that BMC has a strong track record in cloud deployment, last year having been directly involved in some 70 successful projects around the world.
Earlier this week BMC announced it had agreed to buy US software company Numara as part of a strategy to expand its software as a service (SaaS) offerings.
