Axia to bid for slice of National Broadband Network

The firm made the disclosure in a filing of its first quarter results for 2009.

“In the second quarter Axia intends to respond to an RFP for a Next Generation Network initiative in Australia,” the company said.

“Axia’s solutions in Alberta, France and Singapore are directly applicable to the challenges that the Commonwealth faces in transitioning Australia to a modern telecom infrastructure.

“Any solution for Australia will depend upon utilising functional capital markets,” the firm said.

The announcement could potentially bring to four the number of bidders for the next-generation broadband network.

Axia has built a ‘SuperNet’ in Alberta, Canada, for the Government of Alberta which consists an IP network that connects all the communities in the province, and provides direct connectivity to 4,200 government, learning, health, library and municipal facilities.

It also has a 50 percent stake in Covage, a company with interests in building out similar large-scale network projects in France.
