Avnet expands solid state drive range with Micron deal

Avnet Australia has signed an agreement with Micron Technology to distribute its brands of solid state drives and DRAM.

Mohit Jain, Avnet's global computing components vice president for Asia-Pacific, said: "Avnet Australia has two specific areas of business expertise: our components business and our IT business, which specifically focuses on the top 200 IT resellers and integrators in Australia.

"The latter division only manages tier one storage brands, therefore, deploys a very knowledgeable team to promote and ensure the continued and future success of Crucial and Ballistix products in Australia."

Micron Technology is a provider of semiconductor solutions the company manufactures and markets a full range of DRAM, NAND and NOR flash memory, and other memory technologies. The vendor's revenues for the last quarter globally were US$2.9 billion.

Crucial is a global brand of Micron and its Australian office is located in North Sydney.

Ballistix is also a Micron global brand, focused on PC gaming.

Micron national sales manager Richard Clarke said: "Avnet's unique business model allows them to cater to rapidly changing market trends, providing customers with an in-depth understanding of technology and fast order fulfillment. Avnet is aligned with our business strategy and an ideal partner to take Crucial and Ballistix SSD and DRAM products to the market."
