Australian Apple Watch prices and shipping dates confirmed

Tim Cook, chief executive of Apple, has revealed the price range for its upcoming wearables, set launch in Australia on 24 April.

The family of smartwatches starts with the Apple Watch 'Sport', which will cost US$349 for the 38mm version or US$399 for the 42mm.

The standard version of the Watch will be priced from US$549, while the high-end 'Edition' model starts at US$10,000, and is crafted from 18-carat sholid gold or rose gold.

Australia was one of nine launch countries mentioned in Cooks' presentation at Apple's Spring Forward press conference in San Francisco overnight, along with Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, the UK and the United States. The Apple Watch will be available for pre-order on 10 April, when it will also be in store for customers to try.

Other details revealed during the event included more on battery life and charging. Apple claims that "during a typical day, you can expect up to 18 hours of battery life".

The Apple Watch app is said to be available for download "today" to iPhones running iOS 8.2, though we couldn't find it in the App Store.
