Australian manufacturer EFM has announced an exclusive partnership with UK materials developer D3O, while aiming for a channel of 4,000 resellers in Australia and New Zealand.
The mobile accessories manufacturer has implemented D3O's patented technology into its impact resistant smartphone cases.
EFM's first products on the market are the Aspen Case Armour and the Monaco Wallet Case Armour for iPhone 6, iPhone 6S, iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 6S Plus. The cases are retailing in Australia for $49.95 and $59.95 respectively.
EFM general manager Carl Bonham told CRN he has already spoken to major resellers like Officeworks, Harvey Norman, Telstra and Optus. "This is one of the best performing cases created in partnership [with D3O]."
The manufacturer has plans to extend its portfolio to the new Samsung Galaxy S7.
D3O technology is based on non-Newtonian principles, according to the materials vendor, which allows the material to remain soft and flexible in standard conditions and resistant on impact.
The technology has been incorporated in a variety of applications across a range of markets such as sports, footwear, defence and law enforcement.
This is not the first time D3O's technology has been applied into phone cases – the company previously had a worldwide exclusive partnership with Tech21.
D3O strategic business development manager Rupert Findlay said the company's previous experience gave them the knowledge to improve the technology and pursue exclusive partnerships in different parts the globe. "We don't want to make products. We want to create better materials."
