Australian data centre infrastructure vendor ION UPS has secured Westcon as its exclusive distributor.
ION focuses on uninterrupted power supply (UPS) and racks, along with other products such as switches and data centre information tools.
The vendor previously sold direct, but made the decision to go through the channel last October. Channel director Richard Farrell joined the company in October to help take ION into the channel to expand the business.
Farrell told CRN that around the same time he joined, Westcon had ended its distribution deal with global data centre infrastructure vendor Emerson. Westcon signed ION in June as its only data centre vendor.
Farrell said that ION would be able to deliver double-digit gross profit to resellers.
"Our strategy is a plain and simple, 100 percent channel strategy. We did have direct accounts, and we'll be bringing those over to the channel," said Farrell.
"We're in a unique position because we're privately owned and Australian; we're in control of manufacturing and costs. That means we can pass on margins to resellers. Most hardware vendors don’t talk about gross profit anymore but we're very happy to have those conversations."
Headquartered in Melbourne, ION was spun out from power systems distributor Fusion PS. The vendor now has 35 staff mostly in its South Melbourne office and warehouse.
