Asus goes back to the future with local leadership

Mia Tsai, who launched Asus in Australia and New Zealand in 2001, has returned to the hardware maker as managing director, the company announced today.

Tsai replaced Ted Chen, managing director, and his wife Carmen Li, marketing director, who led the company for the past four years. Chen and Li resigned from Asus about six months ago with no reason given for their departure.

Tsai will focus on growing the Asus brand in Australia and New Zealand and will recruit and build the Asus team, said Asus. Tsai said she was "impressed" with the strong team and looked forward to working with the "enthusiastic" staff.

"Asus has experienced significant growth over the last four years thanks to the previous strong management team. Asus will continue to invest in marketing activities to enhance our brand exposure and continued growth in the ANZ market," said Tsai.

In 2001 Tsai was Asus' first female country manager appointed to set up the Australian and New Zealand branch. She then established ASUS' motherboard and VGA business.

"Even after 10 years, Asus products are still at the top. We're definitely the challenger brand in the motherboard category in Australia and close to breaking top five in notebooks," she said.

Tsai spent the past five years launching a business in the automotive industry with 15 employees.
