Apple's Iphone took only 19.2 percent of the US market for smartphones in the first quarter of 2008, down from 26.7 percent sold in the fourth quarter of last year.
To be fair to Apple it has been draining its stores this year as it prepares to flog the 3G version of the Jesus phone later this month.
However, the figures do show that Apple remains an also-ran behind RIMs Blackberry which held 35.1 percent of the market in the fourth quarter and then 44.5 percent in the first.
IDC analyst Ramon Llamas said interest in the Blackberry, which had been limited to business users, had now moved into the consumer segment, which was Apple's playground. ยต
